American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter


The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The Red Cross has been a national symbol of hope and help since the late 1800s. Over the years, the Red Cross has developed programs to support Armed Forces members and their families, provide food, clothing, and shelter to fire victims, and promote community safety and preparedness. The Greater Buffalo Chapter also helps local seniors lead healthy, independent lives, and is the only Red Cross Chapter in the United States with services specifically for people living with HIV/AIDS. Last year alone, the American Red Cross, Greater Buffalo Chapter helped 628 people receive food, clothing, and shelter after a fire, provided transportation assistance to 197 people living with HIV/AIDS through the Ryan White Transportation Program, taught 24,215 people how to save lives with health and safety training, and assisted 356 members of the Armed Forces and their families.
